11 Bible Verses About Gardening, Harvest, & Planting

1. Acts 14:17

“He did good and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.”

I love this verse because it acknowledges that all the beautiful nature we enjoy was a gift given to us from heaven. I don’t know about you, but when I see rain, trees full of fruit, beautiful flowering gardens, my heart does fill with gladness!

2. Ecclesiastes 2:5

“I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kind of fruits.”

It is human nature to enjoy beauty and want to surround ourselves with it. Planting gardens and orchards and fruit trees improves the environment around us and adds joy to our lives.

3. Exodus 34:21

“Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shall rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.”

Here God has given us His law of working and rest. There is a time to work, and a time to rest, the imagery of the harvest illustrates this well.

4. Galatians 5:22

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith.”

You can know if a tree is good by it’s fruit. The fruit and purpose of the spirit is to bring peace, goodness, and love.

“He answered and said unto them, he that Soweth the good seed is the Son of man;”

9. Proverbs 10:5

“He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.”

This wisdom explains that those who plant a garden or a field and work hard to gather it and tend it, are wise. But those who instead sleep and waste their time have caused shame.
