Turn a cardboard paper towel tube into a necktie shaped napkin ring!
Your kids will love this painting craft, and you will love how easy it is!
Use these napkin rings to decorate the table for your Father’s Day dinner, you can even use a marker to write a little note on them.
Supplies Needed
- Acrylic Craft Paint
- Paint brushes
- Cardboard paper towel tubes (You can also use toilet paper roll tubes, but keep in mind they will be used on the napkin you are going to be eating with, and that may or may not bother you since the tube was once in the bathroom. It will be covered in paint anyways, so it’s up to you!)
- A Permanent marker (optional)
- Scissors
- The necktie template (download it below)
How To Make A Painted Necktie Napkin Ring

Step 1. Paint The Cardboard Tube
Have your kids paint the cardboard tubes all over, inside and out.

They can paint it with a pattern to make a fun patterned tie (stripes, dots, etc.) or they can just paint it abstractly.
Then, set the tube down on a piece of paper and let it dry completely.
Step 2. Cut Out The Tie Shape
Use your scissors to cut out a tie shape from the cardboard tube. Cut around the top of the tube to make the ring, and cut the rest of the tie out underneath it.

You can make it simple like I did, or add the little “knot” part under the ring.
If you don’t want to draw or eyeball it yourself, you can use one of these templates! Save the image and print it out, then cut it out and trace it onto the tube.
(If you make shorter ties, you can get two ties from each tube by cutting them out on opposite sides and upside down from each other, you should draw them on first to make sure you do it right.)
Step 3. Customize The Tie
The last step is optional, but if you want to use a marker to write a name or a little note on the tie, that is a great way to add an additional special touch!

Then you are done!
You could make a bunch of these in different colors for all the place settings at the table, or at least all the boys and men’s place settings.
These would also be super cute for any other boys themed holiday, such as a coming of age dinner or a graduation, etc.
